60 km from Dindigul and 120 km from Madurai. It is located amidst the Palani
hills at an altitude of 2133 m in the Western Ghats. This 'Princess of Hill
Stations' was discovered by the American missionaries in 1845. Surrounded by
thickly wooded slopes, mighty rocks, cascading waterfalls and fragrant
colorful flowers, Kodiakanal offers some breathtaking views of the plains
below. The indegenious Kurinji-flower which blooms once in 12 years is the
asset of Kodaikanal. The hill station is also home to educational
institutions of international recognition. It is a nice place to escape from
the heat of the tropical summer

» Kodai Lake - *This artificial lake was created in 1820 by Vele Leving, the then collecter of Madurai. It is a star-shaped lake covering vast landscape of over 24 hectares. It is a nice experience to stroll along the banks of the lake. Boating and fishing is enjoyed here by the visitors much.
» Shenbaganur Musuem - *It is located about 5.5 kms from Kodai lake. This flora and fauna museum also houses some of the archaelogical remains and is maintained by the Sacred Heart College. Also located here is the Orchidoriu containing about 300 hundred species of orchids.
» Dolphin's Nose - *It is 8 km from the Kodai lake and is plateau with steep chasms on either side. This vantage point projects over deep gorges.
» Telescope House - *Two telescopes are erected in two different viewpoints in Kodaikanal to have a panoromic view of the valley and nearby plains.
Telescope are installed at Coaker's Walk and near the Kurinji Andavar temple.

Kodaikanal enjoys pleasant weather throughout the year. The summer temperature is rarely higher than 19.8ºC with a minimum of 11.3 ºC. The minimum temperature during winters records 8.3ºC.

Kodaikanal is well connected by road to all important towns of Tamil Nadu. It is 120 km from Madurai. Buses are available from Chennai, Madurai, Dindigul and Trichy to Kodaikanal.Those who come by rail have to get down at Kodai Road Railway Station on the Chennai-Madurai line and take buses from there. The nearest airport is at Madurai(120 km) from where regular flights operate for Trichy, Coimbatore and Chennai.
